Conference: Experiential Knowledge in the Spotlight
We invite you to participate in the conference EXPERIENTIAL KNOWLEDGE IN THE SPOTLIGHT.
This one-day conference provides an introduction to experiential knowledge as an important source of knowledge in social work, medical and nursing education. What is experiential knowledge? How to use the experiences of service users (clients, patients) of social work and health services?
The conference will consist of a mix of presentations and workshops. It can be combined with a follow-up seminar on 23rd and 24th May. The conference is part of the Erasmus+ Partnership on Experiential Knowledge in Higher Education, in which 12 universities from 10 different countries participate, in collaboration with local and national partners, as well as the PowerUs network and the CARe Network.

The conference is free of charge. However, travel and accommodation costs are on your own expense. Some financial support can be given from the budget of the project. Please ask the contact person of the university in your country (see names below).

Mending the gap between different perspectives – workshop round 1 and 2
Three Universities from The Netherlands, Sweden and UK will share their experiences of working with experiential knowledge within Gap Mending educational practices. We start with an introduction off ‘Gap mending’ and examples. Then you are invited to experience how ‘Gap mending’ can work for your (Universities) and reflect on “What can be your (Universities) next step to Mend the Gap?”

Co-Creating a vision on experiential knowledge – workshop round 1
In this workshop we will discuss perspectives on experiential knowledge, as introduced in the plenary presentation in the morning. We will ask participants to have a dialogue about different aspects of experiential knowledge. What are for you the key words you associate with experiential knowledge? Which principle is the most important according to your view? What is the value and the role of personal experiences and experiential knowledge in your personal and professional life?

In this workshop we will discuss perspectives on experiential knowledge, as introduced in the plenary presentation in the morning. We will ask participants to share their views on how to apply important aspects of experiential knowledge in social work and nursing educations. How could the concept be made more understandable (especially for lecturers and students)? How the concept could be put in practice in different contexts? What factors and strategies could support further developments in different scenario? Participants will be invited in considering the differences between contexts and countries and reflecting on future steps starting from the actual points.

Working with experts-by-experience in education – workshop round 1 and 2
This workshop will focus on the three key aims: 1) Highlight the benefits of integrating experiential knowledge into social work and nursing education. 2) Introduce different approaches to integrating experiential knowledge into social work and nursing education. Examples from across Europe will be used to evidence good practice, which will provide workshop participants with different ways to work with experiential knowledge. 3) Create time and space for discussion, reflection, and the sharing of ideas and experiences for broadening the knowledge base of professional education and practice.
