There will be time in the workshop to reflect on ways to work with experiential knowledge within your university/organisation. \nWorkshop leaders:\nHelen Casey\, The Open University\, England\nSusan Levy\, University of Dundee\, Scotland \nCreative forms of working with experiences: this is a market you can walk around and see different examples from different countries. For example Visual Arts together; how to connect with one another through a creative activity. Being creative together makes you aware of exclusion and inclusion\, gives insight into (the similarities of) each other’s world and allows you to have fun together without stigma. Or you can follow the workshop ‘standing in the shoes of another’. \nStanding in the shoes of another – round 2\nIn this workshop we use theatre to experience a difficult situation from the inside. How does it feel to be in this situation? What different perspectives brings this situation? What do you learn from experiencing this situation? By making sculptures of the situation we will explore these questions. This method is also useful in research and in teaching. After experiencing working with sculptures we will talk about the transfer to research or teaching. Switch your shoes and join the workshop! \nWorkshop Leader: Leonie de Quelerij\, Hogeschool Windesheim\, the Netherlands \nSide visits\nSocial project “Mano guru”\n“Mano Guru” is the first social café in Lithuania and has been operating since 2002. The café was set up specifically for the professional and work reintegration of addicts. The aim of the social projects is to help former addicts\, prison leavers and other marginalised people to integrate into society\, and most of the waiters and bartenders in the café have had these problems and are undergoing training and work experience.\nhttps://www.aukok.lt/projects/?projectName=Mano-guru-sansas-antram-gyvenimui& \nCaritas Social Support and Integration Center “Betanija”\nPersons in need can receive not only food and other material help but also have the opportunity to contact a social worker working at the Centre regarding bailiffs\, social benefits\, housing\, job search or other issues. Visitors will be able to join eco-educational activities from 2 pm with the homeless and other service users and get to know the everyday routine of the Centre.\nhttps://vilnius.caritas.lt/stokojantiems-maisto-ir-aprangos/ \nCaritas Children’s Day Center “Vilties angelas” (Angel of Hope)\nIt offers socio-educational services to children and adolescents aged 4-18 and their families experiencing various difficulties. At the Centre\, children and teenagers prepare homework\, play\, talk\, make handicrafts\, do sports\, try culinary recipes\, travel\, and organize picnics and summer camps. We will ask participants to share their views on how to apply important aspects of experiential knowledge in social work and nursing educations. How could the concept be made more understandable (especially for lecturers and students)? How the concept could be put in practice in different contexts? What factors and strategies could support further developments in different scenario? Participants will be invited in considering the differences between contexts and countries and reflecting on future steps starting from the actual points. \nWorkshop leaders:\nElena Cabiati\, Catholic University Milan\, Italy\nRosalie Metze\, Windesheim University of Applied Sciences\, Netherlands\nJean Pierre Wilken\, HU Utrecht University of Applied Sciences\, Netherlands \nWorking with experts-by-experience in education – workshop round 1 and 2\nThis workshop will focus on the three key aims: 1) Highlight the benefits of integrating experiential knowledge into social work and nursing education. 2) Introduce different approaches to integrating experiential knowledge into social work and nursing education. Examples from across Europe will be used to evidence good practice\, which will provide workshop participants with different ways to work with experiential knowledge. 3) Create time and space for discussion\, reflection\, and the sharing of ideas and experiences for broadening the knowledge base of professional education and practice. \n  \nClick here to register\n  \nOrganising committee\nJolita Buzaitytė Kašalynienė\, Vilnius University\, Lithuania\nEgle Narkeviciene\, Vilnius University\, Lithuania\nJean Pierre Wilken\, HU Utrecht University of Applied Sciences\, Netherlands\nIris van ‘t Wout\, HU Utrecht University of Applied Sciences\, Netherlands

SUMMARY:First presentation joint webinar PowerUs/IASSW
DESCRIPTION:Ole-Petter Askheim\, professor from Lillehammer University College: \n\n“Service Users and Academics: Collaborators\, not Competitors in Welfare Research.” \nService Users and Academics: Collaborators\, not Competitors in Welfare Research. \nThe importance of actively involving users of welfare services in research has increasingly gained ground in both public policy documents and the academic literature. User involvement is increasingly considered a precondition to obtain external funding for research projects. There are both qualitative and democratic arguments for involving service users in research. The quality of research will be improved when persons with user experiences participate in the research process. Owing to their background\, they will raise questions and interpret data in ways other than academic researchers. Further\, the users should have the right to have a say in research that has importance for their lives. However\, a growing opposition to this development appears to increase among academic researchers. The participation of users as co-researchers is seen as a degradation of the researchers’ competence and lacking respect for what creates quality in research. The objections and discussions illustrate the need for a renewed discussion about how knowledge is created and what differences the inclusion of service users in research could bring to the knowledge production process. In the presentation I will address these issues\, and claim that the participation of users as co-researchers does not mean that academic competence and qualifications are downgraded\, but does imply acknowledgement and recognition of the different competencies brought by different actors into the research process. Together\, the different competencies will create a broader and more solid basis for knowledge development. The discussion about service user involvement in research should primarily be transformed into a debate about forms of collaboration and how user involvement and co-research could be implemented in ways where both researchers and users could benefit and further improve the development of welfare services. \nYou can register on this link
