STERKplaats (Strong place)
A STERKplaats contributes to increasing the quality of life of the participants, and in their role as experts by experience they increase opportunities for self-direction and social inclusion of others. The STRONGplaces are an initiative of the LFB. The LFB is the national advocacy organisation by and for people with learning disabilities. An important theme for LFB is providing actual opportunities to (continue to) develop yourself.
STERKplaats Utrecht is located in the building of the bachelor of Social Work and is connected to the education. STRONGstudents learn and work in our bachelor. They give guest lecturers, participate in classes as students or work together with students. Next to this STRONG student participate in research projects but also work with partners outside the University to advocate the voice of people with a learning disability.

Sacha van Gijzel explains how experiential knowledge is integrated into the Social Work bachelor’s program. Students work in learning teams, engage with experts by experience, and can join peer support groups. Later, they focus on practical work with organizations like Lister, applying experiential knowledge in social work practice.
Leonie de Quellerie explains that students at her Social Work school learn to use experiential knowledge from the first year.
They build on this through courses and internships, earning a certificate in experiential expertise in the third year. Teachers are trained to support this approach throughout the program.
